Cabinet of Natural Science
by Alexander Ochs Galleries Berlin I Beijing
Location: Alexander Ochs Galleries
Artist(s): XU Shun
Date: 13 Nov 2010 - 23 Jan 2011

In his paintings Xu Shun is removing the actual focus and consequently trying to point out the more silent and tender elements. With his researching eye small things of daily life turn into the center point of his works.

Xu Shun is observing nature directly by painting and catches only a certain moment on his canvas.  This offers him the possibility to interrupt the event and focus on a calm and quiet moment.

Unlike the old masters who chose mostly dramatic and vivid topics Xu Shun tries to avoid the common way by not providing too obvious information.

While facing the canvas the artist brings back a moment of time and invites the observer to share by visually entering his field of study and relax the eye with his pure, quiet and nearly monochrome Grey-in-Grey works.

Xu Shun was born 1973 in Changshu, Jiangsu, China. He studied at Suzhou Art Academy and currently lives and works in Beijing. After his two solo exhibitions Occurence... presented at ALEXANDER OCHS GALLERIES | Berlin and White Space Beijing in 2008 we are proud to present his new works within the Cabinet of Natural Science 2010.
