The exhibition “On Method”, presented by Three Shadows Photography Art Centre together with the Goethe-Institut China, will be opened in Beijing on August 8th, 2015. Candida Höfer, who studied photography under Bernd Becher at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, took part in the “documenta” in 2001 and represented Germany at the Venice Biennale in 2003 together with Martin Kippenberger. She is one of the most well-known female artists working with photography.

The exhibition “On Method” is the first comprehensive public display of her work in China and gives us an insight into the development and diversity of her photographic working methods. Within this framework it will also be the first exhibition that presents and compares her earlier and recent works from China. In addition, some of her very early works, classic portraits of interiors as well as projections and her latest works from the series “Nahaufnahmen” will also be on display.

Rui Xavier: Silent Spaces (length 42 min.)

The Portuguese filmmaker Rui Xavier spent two years shadowing Candida Höfer. Xavier’s film shows the artist as she takes her pictures, works in the studio and at home, and prepares exhibitions in locations including Düsseldorf, London, and São Paulo. Xavier has created a dense and empathetic portrait of the artist; confident in the power of his visuals, he has made a film without words.
