Kim, Jin is an artist who is well known for his strong and drastic brush strokes and his familiar but unrealistic paintings. He thinks deeply about the stories of his personal life and the fundamental communication among people. At the base of his thoughts is an existential space that he has transformed. His brush strokes, which consist of colors and lights, are overlapped one by one on the canvas, becoming the background of the piece or presenting their own form. From the pieces made while he was in a residency program in Beijing in 2011, we can find that his portraits settled into the corners of his works, a style that first appeared when he studied in the U.K., are transformed into lights reflected on windows and the colors made by the lights. With this transformation, his work has expanded into the whole part of the canvas, and his pieces radiate an aura beyond their frame, catching the attention of viewers, which is the point where his thrilling trip toward art begins.
