Hanart TZ Gallery is proud to present new paintings by Song Yige in her solo exhibition Song Yige.
Song Yige’s art is inspired by Mother Nature and details of daily life, and a deep understanding of how people handle emotions, relationships and their history. Growing up as part of the post-80’s generation, Yige drifted from one place to another during which a web of conflicting emotions has been woven through the fabric and confrontations of her life. The dilemma Yige faces in her daily life is to constantly choose between two states of being, this conscious selection of emotion allowing her to view and express the world from a double visual angle. When the majority of young artists of her generation have flashy visual appeal or use anime as the source of inspiration, Yige chose to be loyal to her own emotions. She feels nostalgic for her childhood on which she constructs and rebuilds traditional elements and displays her helplessness when confronted by death. The clean lines purify and cleanse the senses and souls of the audience and, at the same time, evoke their emotions.
Song Yige’s great talent is that she can imprint feelings and emotions directly onto the canvas: anxiety, attraction, gloom, isolation; these complex and layered emotions which can be transformed into a multi-dimensional language in paint. In this new series, Yige leads the audience to her world: moving furs; bun-like breasts in wooden crates; an ancient Greek statue Venus de Milo finding her way, etc. These objects are no doubt familiar to the audience yet they are situated in hyper-reality settings in which the reality of space becomes meaningless. The metaphor appears and emotions are released. Yige’s art filters and cleanses our hearts and souls and leads us to explore the deep metaphor and meaning behind her work in which reflects our deepest emotional states.
