EC Gallery presents a group exhibiiton featuring works by Wang Jin, Meng Yan, Wu Xuelian and Otto Li.
Using bold array of primary colors, simple lines and composition, Wang Jin invites viewers into her paintings to explore with her the sentiments and undercurrents of modern metropolitan life, usually in the settings of coffee shops at night.
The female artist often lounges in cafes. She relishes the tranquility of the environment while making meticulous observations of the people inside. There seems to be a variety of grandiose performances in that calming environment – there might be people in solitary awaiting their rendezvous, couples breaking up or businessmen settling a deal. Wang Jin illustrates these miscellaneous interactions in her paintings to capture the stories behind individuals in the modern city. The atmosphere in the coffee shop may seem relaxing on the surface, yet there is a sense of tension and loneliness which lingers beneath the superficial, alluding to the fragility and transformative nature of relationships.
The shady blue colors depict not only the nightscape, but also insinuates a mysterious and obscure feel that is representative of the faintly discernable emotions hidden within people. However, the red on the canvas is captivating, sophisticated and full of passion. These colors reveal the complex and contradictive state of people masking their emotions for the sake of the real world.
Born in 1986, Wang Jin is a female artist from Jiangsu. She obtained both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees on Oil Painting from the China Academy of Art in 2009 and 2012 respectively. Since then, Wang has participated in various exhibitions and received several awards. She has established herself as an emerging Chinese artist of unique talent and profound insights.
