Beijing based artist Yang She Wei returns for his second solo exhibition in Hong Kong from 12 May to 9 June 2009 at the Karin Weber Gallery.

The medium he uses has undergone over 5,000 years of refinement,( i.e. Chinese ink painting) and there is no doubt that Yang She Wei’s  technique is masterful.  In his CHINESE OPERA SERIES the raw emotions and vulnerability of his subjects is palpable, the artist invites the viewer to study the faces beneath the masks.  He is always trying to highlight the tension and struggle of the people amidst China’s economic reform. The Chinese opera singers that will be shown are people who must excel in the role they play in order to make a living.  Often they have to play several roles at the same time. Whether they like it or not is not up for discussion.
