Hong Kong is a vibrant city on the move. Having spent over three years photographing the city, the idea of putting together a collection of motion-filled images of Hong Kong came about. The images attempt to capture the sense of the non-stop lifestyle of Hong Kong, even in places and moments where all seems calm.
The majority of images were long exposures taken on a tripod, to create motion within the picture, with alternative camera techniques, such as panning, used to produce the remaining photos. Every image has movement in - sometimes obvious, occasionally subtle: the light trails of traffic, the swaying of leaves on a tree, the rush of pedestrians, the effect of the tide washing over rocks or the blurring of the passing clouds.
The aim of the exhibition is to give a fresh perspective of Hong Kong, using photos taken from different viewpoints and camera techniques that add an extra dimension to the image. There is no deep hidden meaning or philosophy behind the photographs – just visualizing a scene and capturing it in the right light or at the right moment.
Please enjoy the exhibition and I hope I have succeeded in showing a new side to Hong Kong.
