Stephen Eastaugh visits Hong Kong to briefly show his videos filmed in Antarctica. As the Australian Antarctic Arts Fellow in 2009, Stephen Eastaugh was the first artist to spend an entire winter in Antarctica since pioneering photographer Frank Hurley in 1914-1916.
While staying at the Mawson Antarctic scientific base, Eastaugh set-up a studio, painted, photographed and filmed; he completed a series of videos surrounded by thousands of kilometres of snow, mountains, icebergs and penguins. These videos will be screened at Experimenta, complemented by a series of paintings.
Stephen Eastaugh has visited Antarctica nine times and over the last 30 years has visited 80 countries. His most recent artist residency was in Greenland and he has previously exhibited in Hong Kong and around the world. His work is in many public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia.
