Archive of The People at Art Basel Hong Kong 2014
by Para/Site Art Space
Location: HKCEC, Wanchai, Hong Kong
Artist(s): LEE Kai Chung
Date: 15 May - 18 May 2014

Para Site presents a broad range of activities during the upcoming Art Basel Hong Kong, the leading art fair in Asia. Events include solo presentation, Archive of the People, by artist Lee Kai Chung, which can be viewed at the Para Site booth.

Commissioned especially for Para Site’s booth at Art Basel Hong Kong, Archive of The People is a presentation of 3 works by Lee Kai Chung, who started this project in 2013. It marks Lee’s first solo presentation of his ongoing research on Hong Kong. For the first time, audiences will be able to view his development as an artist through these selected works. Each was conceived out of his interest in Hong Kong’s history and the associated political challenges. Works include Open Archives Initiative (2013) and the recently completed A Meeting Man (2014). Together they present a compelling narrative and explore the artist’s specific questions regarding the disposal of primary sources and the ambiguous role of the governance of archival materials in Hong Kong. Archive of the People is curated by Qinyi Lim.

Born in 1985, Lee Kai Chung is currently a student at the City University of Hong Kong in the Master of Fine Arts Department. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Past exhibitions and projects include Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012; Hong Kong Museum of Art (2011); New Trend 2008; Cattle Depot, Hong Kong and The Unrealized, Ching Ming Building, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (2008).
