In Their Caves - an exhibition of painting
by White Tube
Location: White Tube
Date: 8 Apr - 28 Apr 2011

This is a painting exhibition. Virginia Woolf used "Cave" as a metaphor of the mysterious place to be explored in her work. In this exhibition - "Cave" can also be regarded as a place filled with lots of uncertanity and unknown. A group of six artists, graduating from the Hong Kong Art School, with painting as major medium, are participating in this exhibition. Exploring the meaning of painting and the role that painting plays in their own world.

In "their caves", the audience and artist is "Hunter. They are all trying to explore their own interpretation and meaning towards work creation and the final product. To the artist, this exhibition allows them to re-think "what is painting". They put their won focus from their work then extend to certain current social problems. They go deeper and deeper, and turn out they do not just understand the surface of the work, but the motive and purpose behind.

"I have no time to describe my plans. I should say a good deal about The Hours, and my discovery; how I dig out beautiful caves behind my characters; I think that gives exactly what I want; humanity, humour, depth. The idea is that the caves shall connect, and each comes to daylight at the present moment."
- Virginia Woolf's Diary (1923.8.30)
