Alcaston Gallery is pleased to present new watercolour paintings on paper by master Namatjira school of artists, DOUGLAS ABBOTT, in his first solo exhibition at Alcaston Gallery.
Greatly influenced by the art of Namatjira, Abbott has developed his own unique style, employing a rich colour palette of bold reds, lush greens and luminous gold.
In this new body of work he depicts his father’s Arrernte country, the West MacDonnell Ranges, which lie to the west of Alice Springs; they reveal the seasonal changes and natural events such as bush fires that affect and alter his landscape.
Douglas Abbott's paintings have been featured in important exhibitions throughout Australia and internationally, and collected by private and major public institutions, including National Gallery of Victoria, Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide, and Parliament House Art Collection, Canberra.
I am very proud to present Douglas Abbott's first solo exhibition at Alcaston Gallery who is considered by many the master watercolourist painting today, and who is continuing an inventive, proud and unique view of Arrernte country.
