Nobuhiko Haijima (b.1970) graduated Tokyo Zokei University in 1997 and has been teaching at Musashino Art University and Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music since 2009. Haijima's approach to compose the space with his minimalistic animal silhouette paintings is always distinctive. At this time, he is going to present an installation with more than 20 original paintings from his recently published picture book "Can you hear that sound?" at MEGUMI OGITA GALLERY.
"'Can you hear that sound?' is my first picture book.
The creation process was based on the idea of making a 'music record without a sound' with the aim of expressing the interaction between image and sound. The book is open to individual interpretations from what each person percieves through the pictures and words."
As sometimes blank space being left in a painting arouses our imagination, silent paintings can play richer and stronger sound in our mind. He is going to install the original paintings as well as some sculptures and drawings to make each different element harmonize.
