Sleeping Through the Museum
by Sakshi Gallery Mumbai
Location: Sakshi Gallery Mumbai
Artist(s): Waswo X. Waswo
Date: 8 May - 21 Jun 2014

Sakshi Gallery presents "Sleeping through the Museum" an exhibition of recent works by Udaipur-based American artist Waswo X. Waswo

Waswo X. Waswo is renowned for his hand-coloured photographs in collaboration with Rajesh Soni. In his latest solo exhibition, Waswo orchestrates a series of lithographs with Subrat Behera, a young Orissan artist, who responds to Waswo and Soni's work with his own surrealistic style. Based on notions of what consitutes "museum-worthiness" and how institutions often miss the subtleties of culture in the rush to gather documentation, Waswo ends up critiquing his own work. Village potter Shyam Lal Kumhar joins in this conceptual exhibition by providing an assortment of "artefacts".
