One month scoped GENG Jianyi Solo Exhibition 2015 Summer will be inaugurated on 8 Sep. 2015 located in ShanghART on the West Bund. As one of most distinctive ShanghART represented artists, GENG Jianyi has successfully contrived the opening for ShanghART Beijing and Singapore, respectively. 2015 Summer, a complete brand-new bespoke installations fabricated by GENG Jianyi will unveil the eye-opening surprise to the public. 

GENG Jianyi is claimed as one of most innovative and pioneering Chinese contemporary artists from the 80’s of 20th century. Besides already achieved resourceful magnificent masterpieces, his works are extensively immersed in varied mediums, from painting, photography to installations and videos. As being excessively sensitive to his surroundings, through differentiated perspectives present how GENG Jianyi probes and experiences his spiritual territory. Circumstanced with GENG Jianyi’s long-term pivotal subjects, exhibition 2015 Summer is explicated as “ego, time, space”, then avant-garde pieces and attitude are about to be diverged and the confronted survival experience and perception under the reality of the present will be disseminated.

1962 born in Zhengzhou, Henan Province, China

1985 Graduated from Oil Painting Department, Zhejiang Academy of Fine Arts, Hangzhou 

Now works and lives in Hangzhou

His works have been widely exhibited since 1989.

Important solo exhibitions include: Wu Zhi, Geng Jianyi Works 1985-2008, Minsheng Art Museum, Shanghai (2012); Geng Jianyi, Excessive Transition, ShanghART Beijing (2008); Important group exhibition include: GWANGJU Biennale , Korea (2014); 85 New Wave, The Birth of Chinese Contemporary Art, UCCA, Beijing (2007); The 1st Guangzhou Trienniale, Guangdong Museum of Art (2002); Another Long March, Chinese Conceptual Art in the 1990's, Breda, The Netherlands (1997); 45th Venice Biennale - Cardinal Points of the Arts, Italy (1993); China Avant-garde, Haus der Kulturen der Welt, Berlin (1993); China/Avant-Garde Art Exhibition, National Art Museum of China, Beijing (1989).

As an observer and supporter of China Contemporary Art, ShanghART have represented approximately 50 outstanding artists. 20 years since established, its motif of unearth and prospect Chinese modern Art is invariably persevered. Debuted ShanghART on the West Bund continuously facilitates the determination and devotion of ShanghART to strengthen and develop the vitality of contemporary art.
