The Evolution Group Exhibition
by AP Contemporary
Location: AP Contemporary
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 16 Jul - 29 Aug 2014

AP contemporary presents “The Evolution Group Exhibition” which includes our great artists: Gago Chtchyan, Zorikto Dorzhiev, Olga Tobreluts and Sonya Fu- all of them are showing us the wonderland from their abundant and vast imagination.

Gago Chtchyan is an Armenian artist where Armenia is one of the ancient countries in the history. Armenia was in the influence of the Mongol Empire, Ottoman and Persian Empires, later on the Russian Empire; these strong empires’ influence made Armenia and their people covered with a layer of mystery, awaiting us to discover. Gago’s paintings are inspired by the nature and culture of his ancient homeland which reflects his very personal response to the collective memories and experience of the Armenia people. Gago uses relatively traditional medium in his art which enables us to experience once again the elegance and the aura of what we have known as Art in the very beginning.

Zorikto Dorzhiev is a Buryat artist, Republic of Buryatia lies in southeast Siberia, with the immense Lake Baikal to its west and Mongolia to its southern border. Zorikto’s paintings represent lives of nomadic Buryat people in the past that they lived in one of the most difficult environments on earth, with the great help of the animals and later the influence of Buddhist beliefs. In Zorikto’s paintings, they are not the boring historical pictures; instead, they are the artistic and imaginative pictures showing us the nomadic lifestyle and philosophy.

Olga Tobreluts is a Russian artist, who became well-known internationally, primarily as a pioneering media art artist and a creator of massive video installations. She is one of the first contemporary artists who picked modern computer technologies as a medium. Tobreluts’ artworks appear to be intricate manipulations, in which historical realities and myths of modern culture are melted together for the purpose of transforming them into a magical super reality. Tobreluts’ artworks’ subjects serve as an artistic trick devised to effectively decipher a work of art for today’s viewer. Anyone could discover something that somehow resembles his/her every day’s environment when taking a closer look at her mythological structures.

Sonya Fu is a Hong Kong artist who chose the most untraditional way- digital painting as the medium. Sonya is living in a region where East meets West, a place which is influenced by both Oriental and Western culture. Sonya’s artworks are inspired by dreams, music, morality and religious belief systems resulting in an obscure and eerie atmosphere in her artworks. The character that Sonya created in her artworks leads us to a completely different dimension, where we could discover the world of the past, the present, the future, the afterlife, or simply an imaginative piece of land.
