Lumina Mense
by Equator Art Projects
Location: Equator Art Projects
Artist(s): Filippo SCIASCIA
Date: 3 Nov - 25 Nov 2012

Equator Art Projects is pleased to present Lumina Mense, a solo exhibition by Indonesian-based Italian artist Filippo Sciascia.

As a continuation of Filippo Sciascia’s investigation towards the idea of light and its influence on human, Lumina Mense brings his search to a wider context. Using the idea of light as a metaphor for human knowledge and enlightenment, Sciacsia juxtaposes the idea of the individual and the collective, referencing through his choices of shapes and imageries the religious and the scientific, and by nature of his choice of medium: light and darkness. Is the need to continuously develop, expand and conquer, really a human’s most ancient? Filippo Sciascia attempts to address this question in Lumina Mense. Faces attached to the painting, each of them is an individual, each part of a crowd. They act not so much as actors and actresses, but as an audience for the eyes of the viewer.

About the Artist:

Filippo Sciascia was born in Palma Di Montechiaro, Sicily in 1972, and completed his study at the Accademia di Belle Arti Firenze, Florence. He moved to Bali in 1998 where he continues to live and work. Lumina Mense is his twenty-fifth one-person exhibition. Earlier in 2012, he had a major exhibition, Lux Lumina, at Castel d’Ovo in Naples, Italy.
