Contemporary Ink Art
by Ota Fine Arts Singapore
Location: Ota Fine Arts Singapore
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 28 Mar - 17 May 2015

Ota Fine Arts Singapore is delighted to present "Contemporary Ink Art", a group exhibition featuring a variety of artists from both China and Singapore who have interpreted ink and literati traditions into contemporary forms.

Exhibited are three ink rubbings by Cai Guo-Qiang from his "Nontransparent Monument" series; and a set of nine waxed ink drawings by Zai Kuning from his "Brutality of Fact" series. Sun Xun's ink sketches on graphing paper provide the material for his much-lauded stop-motion animation video, "What Happened in the Year of the Dragon". And at the centre of the gallery, Zhan Wang's stainless steel revision of a scholar's rock glitters in tandem with a traditional Lingbi carved rock from.

Each of these contemporary forms speaks to a history of ink painting and literati aesthetics that traveled from ancient China into the peninsular straits. Thanks to a generous loan from the collection of John and Cheryl Chia, we have also exhibited masters of Singapore's "Nanyang Style" Chua Ek Kay, Lim Tze Peng and Shih Hu, alongside esteemed abstract calligraphers Gu Wenda, Wang Dong Ling and Tsang Tsou Choi (also known as the King of Kowloon).
