Behind the desire of Shafic Abboud to paint, there have always been some forms of a Nude. From an initial sketch, the composition would evolve to convey the artist’s sensations.
In his intimate notes, Abboud expressed clearly his preoccupations “not to consider the Nude as a plastic object”. He was constantly searching for “how a woman can become pictorially fertile and prolific”. His oeuvre is mostly about the re-inventiveness of his painting rather than the diversity of bodies. His nude figuration, whether evident or abstracted, is far from resemblance; it drives him away from the obscene.
Abboud has painted the splendor of the nude body with a chastity that was so much his.
This exhibition, in collaboration with the Abboud estate, is associated with the publication of a monograph on Abboud by Skira.
