Yoshimi Arts is pleased to present the solo exhibition by Keigo Kamide, “Floating”.
In Japanese traditional crafts, they have various problems. Now, we cannot help saying that the low demand and decrease in the number of craftsmen by the change of life style and the rise of mass-produced goods, have spread until the makers of tools and materials, and have weakened the traditional crafts. Kutani ware, which is one of the traditional crafts in Ishikawa prefecture, is no exception.
Keigo Kamide is the sixth heir of Kamide Choemon-gama, Kutani ware kiln which has over 130 years of history. He has acted as director of Kamide Choemon-gama, he has collaborated with Jaime Hayon, a worldwide designer, together with MARUWAKA-YA, and he has exhibited the art work as an independent artist, such as “Banana” made of porcelain . He has performed the action on many fields. Viewing comprehensively the things which are related to Kutani ware, he sets the seriousness of the history aside, regains it from losing substance. He is trying to reproduce that we can feel it rich and fresh.
At the exhibition, in addition to his new works, you will be able to enjoy looking at the reborn style of “Large dish with Design of Flowers” by Kamide Choemon-gama / Keigo Kamide, which was exhibited in the condition of being broken as installation art at his solo exhibition “Isolated”(2011, at Yoshimi Arts).
