Location: Yoshimi Arts
Artist(s): Miki SATO
Date: 25 Nov - 23 Dec 2011

Human beings are most interested in human beings in any age, so human beings have thought and tried all available way to find out the origin. Religion, philosophy, thought, science, and so is art. But now, some people say that art is entertainment, and art seems to be different from pursuing the origin of human beings.

Miki Sato lives in Yamagata Prefecture. Yamagata is the place surrounded by mountains literally (the word “Yama” of Yamagata means mountain in Japanese). She has necessarily to face nature and is leaded to the idea of pursuing the human origin as opposed to it. On the other hand, we live in contemporary society. We cannot follow enormous amounts of information and speed of social changes, so we become uneasy, lose the sense of direction, and don’t know where we are. Miki Sato reacts sensitively what is happening in the society now, and think that just the act of pursuing the human origin is required. She is worthy of being called the artist painting in a primitive sense, as the act of praying in religion.

Within one year, she presented her works continuously in group exhibition and art fair, and had many experiences. In this exhibition, all the works are new paintings, as the compilation of it.
