This exhibition is about how creativity from fine art and fashion teams up to produce ‘moving art pieces’.  Leading Hong Kong fashion designer Ms. Meiyi Cheung from WHOSTHAT has chosen Japanese artists Tomoaki Tarutani and VIWA’s paintings and patterns for her new collection targeting women who treasure their clothes as pieces of art rather than disposables.  VIWA and Tomoaki's paintings and patterns contain a sense of modernity, and have plenty visual interests, that moves people's heart and sensation, as fashion does.

Visitors will have a sneak preview of 2012 Fall Winter collection as well as special headpieces (‘wearable sculpture’) designed by Australian artist Tricia Flanagan.

About the artists

Tomoaki Tarutani was born in Kyoto in 1984 and attained a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Osaka University of Arts in 2007. In 2009 Tarutani was awarded the KONICA MINOLTA Eco & Art Award, and won honorable mention at The 9th International Illustration Competition.  VIWA was born in Saitama, Japan in 1976 and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting at Tokyo Zokei University in 2001. His works have been shown in Shanghai, Singapore and Hong Kong as well as Japan.

About the fashion designer

Meiyi Cheung was awarded with MA in Design and is currently an executive member of the HK Fashion Designers Association.  Other than being guest judge of numerous fashion competitions and guest lecturer of the HK Polytechnic University, she was also a nominee of ten outstanding designers awards in 2010.  Her fashion works are in the museum collection of HK Heritage Museum.
