Grotto Fine Art takes pleasure to present the second solo exhibition, My Tiresome at the Bottom of the Valley, by Hong Kong calligrapher and painter CHUI Pui-chee. In an insinuation of the powerlessness of city folks, the artist uses lyrics from Canton Pop as his medium of emotional outlet. His running and cursive script carves the silhouettes of modern mundane life. Many of his calligraphy adopt a slender dimension in which his potent calligraphy gave a full bloom of tension. The narrow writing space also alludes to the limited freedom and grasp we have over life. Chui’s incisive depiction of the fiasco of nobody and ordinary life evokes strong resonance among those who live in mundane.
