Some days can be some kind of daze. Amidst the din of 21st century life, words and images can pass us by out of sequence like a comic strip without purpose. Somedays Somedaze, like a heroic “Ka-POW!” presents a multitude of thoughts, bubbled up to the surface to address contemporary society. Through an exploration of pop cultural history, our sense of nostalgia is linked to pertinent contemporary issues. Each work addresses our collective cultural memory in order to animate the present.
The chaos and concerns of modern society are dissected, analyzed and reframed in the vision of artists Parent’s Parents and Kristal Melson. The aesthetics of comic book hero The Flash meets ‘The Message’ of Grandmaster Flash – bold and colorful, the works push us close to the edge without us losing our heads. In Somedays Somedaze, time does not pass them by sans comic criticism.
