Reminiscence of the Land
by 798 Photo Gallery
Location: 798 Photo Gallery
Artist(s): GROUP SHOW
Date: 25 Oct - 25 Nov 2014

“The persons who figure in the photography] drift between the shores of perception, between sign and image, without ever approaching either.”

Loaded with cargo or a mission, the ship floats and sails between shores. A ship is a journey, a transition, a connection, a trade. For the sailor, the ship is as real as any storm; for the people on shore, it is a dream dreamt only occasionally. And for those who live across the ocean from where they come from, the ship is not only a means of transportation between here and there - seasickness has diluted their sense of orientation; it is a situation where “here” and “there” cease to make difference.

This exhibition presents six young artists who are currently living or studying in North America. In the work included, they either create a space or construct a place. A place is space with certain significance; whereas space is mobile places. The artists feel skeptical about the validity of the departure point or the destination as a place, as well as about the stability of an identity spatially in transit.
