Hell Hot! Music Festival
by Gallery Exit
Location: Hong Kong Arts Centre McAulay Studio, I/O Gallery, Gallery Exit, Osage SOHO
Date: 2 Aug - 8 Aug 2010

‘Hong Kong's first festival of contemporary music’

The Hell Hot! Music Festival is Hong Kong’s first festival for contemporary music. Contemporary music is typified by its daring experimentalism and the use of classical musical instruments, constantly pushing the boundaries of the classical concert hall. Taking place in the SAR’s hottest summer month, the festival presents a welcome relief from the hell hot weather, replacing it with a whole week of the most daring contemporary music from all around the world.

Highlights include: American minimalist master STEVE REICH's rarely heard epic “Different Trains,” performed for the very first time in Hong Kong, a selection of avant garde Chinese compositions performed by the BEIJING NEW MUSIC ENSEMBLE, and award-winning clarinetist Richard Haynes from Australia.

Artist Highlight: RTHK String Quartet (Hong Kong), Steve Reich (USA), Mary Wu (Hong Kong), Hong Kong New Music Ensemble (Hong Kong), Richard Haynes (Australia), Beijing New Music Ensemble (China), Kung Chi Shing (Hong Kong).
Venues: Hong Kong Arts Centre McAulay Studio, I/O Gallery, Gallery EXIT, Osage SOHO
